Easter is March 27th!

Easter is Sunday, March 27th! Don’t forget the flowers! Your spring celebration is the perfect setting for beautiful flowers! You can also have a lovely floral gift delivered to your loved ones for Easter!

  • A popular choice for Easter is the Easter lily. The Easter lily’s true name is Bermuda lily. For many, the beautiful trumpet-shaped white flowers symbolize purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life—the spiritual essence of Easter. Your local florist can even add a festive basket & bow to your Potted Easter Lily. They are great as gifts for mom or grandma, or to decorate your home or office. They are grown from bulbs, and can be transplanted into your home garden after the blooms have died off. Then, they will bloom in your flower garden every spring!
  • As a sign of Spring, Tulips are in full bloom, making this a perfect time to send a beautiful vase of fresh colorful tulips as a gift! Many spring flowers are at their peak in the Spring. Your local florist can recommend the many colorful options available.
  • Centerpieces are a wonderful choice for Easter Brunch or Dinner. Your local florist can create a custom centerpiece in any size, color or style you prefer. They make a great gift for a host/hostess and can also be delivered to your recipient with a personalized Easter message!
    Attending Easter Services this year? An elegant corsage or boutonnière’ will compliment your Easter attire!
  • The Easter Cactus, otherwise known as Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri, is a beautiful spring blooming plant similar to the Thanksgiving or Christmas Cactus. The obvious difference is that the Thanksgiving & Christmas cactus usually blooms at Thanksgiving and Christmas and the Easter cactus usually blooms at Easter. The vivid blooms arrive every Easter and put on a spectacular show! What a fantastic Easter Gift for your loved ones!
  • Finally, Easter Baskets aren’t just for kids! Send a delicious Gourmet Gift Basket or Fresh Fruit Basket to your loved ones for Easter. Gourmet Gift Baskets can contain many goodies; Jelly Beans, Chocolates, Cookies, Crackers, and other snack items. Beautifully designed Fresh Fruit Baskets offer a healthy option and can contain a variety of fresh citrus and other “in season” fruits. Your local florist can also create the “Ultimate” in Gift Baskets for young people! A Gift Basket full of Easter Chocolates, Jelly Beans and a Plush Easter Bunny anchoring a colorful balloon bouquet would delight any child this Easter!

FAQ of the week- Grower Direct Flowers?

Flower Power Network is happy to assist you with your floral questions. Occasionally, we will post these FAQ's to our blog and our website for your convenience. If you have a floral related question, feel free to email us by clicking here. We personally respond to every email. You can also reach us via our live chat. Access is in the sidebar under archives. Our question of the week is;

Q. I ordered flowers for my sister online through Proflowers.com. The picture of the flowers was impressive and the price was unbeatable! However, my sister got a box of flowers that were falling apart, and they looked nothing like the picture! Not to mention, they were not in a vase. They refunded my money, but the occasion had passed and I felt terrible about sending my sister these "flowers in a box". Do you have any advice to offer that will help me make sure the next time I order flowers, I know what I am getting?

A. This is a common misconception of "grower direct". The price is too good to pass up, but now you know why. When a flower is cut, water is essential for long lasting beauty. A fresh cut flower out of water is a flower dying. Gardeners have also developed techniques to further prolong the life of your flower arrangement. This step-by-step process has been adapted over the years to ensure your flowers last longer than just a couple of days. As growers began to focus on volume, florists evolved for care and handling of your flowers (i.e. processing and design.) “Grower Direct” flowers lack two important factors that improve the lifespan of your flower arrangement. The flowers are sent inside a box, often deprived of water for a period of up to 24 hours. They also bypass your local florist, whose skilled processing techniques ensure that your flowers will last longer. Presentation is the key when expressing your sentiments with flowers. Asking your recipient to arrange their own flowers from a box may not be the impression you are looking to make. A professional florist is your best bet for a beautifully designed arrangement of fresh flowers. You will always get a better value when dealing with a professional florist.

St. Patrick's Day is March 17th!

St. Patrick’s Day is Thursday, March 17th! Celebrate this Irish holiday with a gift from your local florist! Here we will discuss the many options available for your St. Patty’s holiday celebration or to send as a gift! Many florists will have green dyed flowers for St. Patty’s Day. Carnations and Daisies are often the best choices for dyed cut flowers due to their hardiness. There are also a few flowers that are available in green naturally. Consider the following floral creations for your St. Patrick's Day celebration!

St. Patty’s Day Floral Basket, Vase or Centerpiece~ A festive basket, vase or centerpiece of fresh spring blooms will add the perfect touch to your St. Patty’s celebration. Green & white and other complimentary flowers with a lush greenery filler can brighten any home or office! If dyed flowers aren’t your forte’, consider white Lily’s, green Bells of Ireland (very appropriate) and white Tulips or Roses.

Plants~ Green or Blooming Plants create a functional everlasting display. Placed in a white or green basket with a festive St. Patty’s theme bow, and O’ what a lovely gift to send to your loved ones!

Gourmet Gift Baskets~ A delicious basket O’Treats will thrill your loved ones this holiday season! Consider sending an Irish Themed Gift Basket overflowing with cookies, crackers, cheeses, Irish coffees, Irish teas and candies.

Special Event Floral

When you are in charge of organizing a “Special Event”, you want to make a good impression. Don’t forget the flowers to make your event memorable. Your local florist offers a wide variety of floral décor for any event!

Flowers can add a special touch to many events including;

~Conventions & Trade Shows ~Corporate & Private Celebrations ~Fundraisers ~Graduations ~Reunions ~School Functions (including dances) ~Open House (Corporate or Residential) ~Banquets ~Mitzvahs ~Seasonal Home & Office ~Anniversary Parties ~Weddings & Receptions ~Baby Showers ~Bridal Showers ~Birthday Parties ~Church Functions

Some of the many floral designs used for special events include;

Centerpieces- Your local florist can assist you with centerpieces with or without candles. Be sure to have an accurate table count. It will also help your florist customize your floral centerpieces if you know the size and shape of the table. Centerpieces can add beautiful color to your special event. At the end of your event you can even hold a drawing for the centerpieces or give them away.

Structure Floral Design- (for banister railings, doorways, stages, fireplace, etc.) Flowers can be designed to compliment any structure for your special event. If possible your florist may like to visit your event venue to take measurements and make the appropriate recommendations for floral designs customized for structures.

High Style Floral Designs- These unique designs can be in vases, urns or other special containers. They are commonly used on Foyer Tables, Pedestals, Stages and Head Tables for dramatic effect. A high style floral arrangement is blooming modern art, impressive for any special event.

Another creative idea is to have corsages and/or boutonnières made for your guests of honor, hosts and speakers. They will compliment the other flowers at your event, and double as a token of appreciation for your distinguished guests. Call a local florist today for details.

Wedding Flowers 101

A Bridal Stem Bouquet and a Toss Bouquet (click to enlarge, See the details!)
Your getting married? Congratulations! Your flowers are an important detail of your wedding day. The fragrance, color and style of your flowers can make your "Special Day" unique and memorable. We know that you have a lot of planning ahead of you in preparing for your wedding. We hope to make selecting your flowers a little easier. Please keep in mind, you can not get bouquets like the ones shown above at a grocery store! These were designed by professional florists using premium flowers and they took skilled hands several hours to create them! For professional designs and quality, always work with a full service professional florist.
More often than not the selection process of your wedding flowers will begin with a discussion of the Bride’s bouquet. You will have a choice of several basic styles. These are cascade, crescent, contemporary, nosegay, hand tied bouquet and arm or presentation style. You can better prepare for your first meeting with your florist if you bring the following;

• A list of those in your wedding party that will need flowers.
• A list of what flowers you will want at the ceremony.
• A list of what flowers will be needed at the reception, including table count, size and shape.
• Color/fabric swatches and pictures of your dress and bridesmaids dresses, if you have them.
• Feel free to also bring pictures of flowers that you like.

Flower Buyers...

Thanks to the Associated Press, consumers are now finding out what retail florists have known all along. Calling a wire service or other third party order taker is no longer necessary when sending flowers across the country. In fact, when ordering your flowers through ANY Middleman, the value of your order is compromised. You may have read this recent article in your local paper. It was picked up by newspapers all over the nation! We are pleased that the AP is shining a light on this important topic during this busy floral holiday! So if you are wondering why your less than impressive Valentine’s Day flowers you sent were so expensive, consider this; When you call a middleman and place a $60.00 order, they retain a percentage of that, simply for calling the order out to a florist. The florist gets the order from the middleman at a value of $43.00. After delivery fees are deducted, your floral order has an approximate value of $35.00. You paid $60.00! Didn’t get what you ordered? That is because the “call centers” have no idea what the florists have in stock! By calling a florist directly, you know what is available for your floral gift. Was your order delivered late or not at all? Mistakes are all too common when placing an order through a third party. When you area talking with the florist that will be designing & delivering your floral order, you can discuss every detail of your order to your satisfaction. So remember, only a real local florist can provide you with professional customer service and a better value for your floral gift! You can avoid the middleman, search our FREE directory of real local florists at www.flowerpowernetwork.com.

Red Roses For Love....

There are many different variations of what each color of rose symbolizes. Some of the more common associations are listed below. You may find other lists that suggest different meanings for each color. This is because there is no "Definitive" list for rose color meanings. This guide is merely to suggest appropriate colors for certain occasions/expressions.

Red Roses- Love, Respect, Courage
Yellow Roses- Joy, Gladness, Freedom, Friendship
Pink/Peach Roses- Gratitude, Admiration, Sympathy
White Roses- Reverence, Purity, Innocence, Secrecy
Coral/Orange Roses- Fascination, Enthusiasm, Desire
Lavender Roses- Enchantment
Red and White Roses- Unity
Red, Pink & White Roses- Trinity

More importantly, roses, or any other flowers for that matter, also hold the meaning we give them and the feeling with which they are given. That is what makes them special. So with your sentiment, any flowers will send the message that you are thinking of the recipient regardless of their color.

FAQ

Question of the week;

Q. I want to send my Mom flowers for Valentine's Day. She has been a single mom for many years, and because she is not dating anyone, I would like to get her something for Valentine's Day. What can I send to my Mom other than roses?

A. There are many options available for you! Don't fear the roses just because the gift is for your Mother! You could send a 1 or 2 dozen of all white, all pink or all yellow roses. You can also send a mixed vase arrangement with a variety of beautiful flowers. If you know she likes a particular color, you can mention that to your florist. As the photos above show, mixing many types of flowers and colors can create an impressive display. Your local florist can attach a message card from you to the floral arrangement. She will be touched that you thought of her this Valentine's Day!
