Easter is Sunday, April 8th! Celebrate with Flowers!

Easter is Sunday, Sunday April 8th! Don’t forget the flowers! Your spring celebration is the perfect setting for beautiful flowers! You can also have a lovely floral gift delivered to your loved ones for Easter!

A popular choice for Easter is the Easter lily. The Easter lily’s true name is Bermuda lily. For many, the beautiful trumpet-shaped white flowers symbolize purity, hope and life—the spiritual essence of Easter. Your local florist can even add a festive basket & bow to your Potted Easter Lily. They are great as floral gifts for mom or grandma, or to decorate your home or office. They are grown from bulbs, and can be transplanted into your home garden after the blooms have died off. Then, they will bloom in your flower garden every spring!

As a sign of Spring, Tulips are in full bloom, making this a perfect time to send a beautiful vase of fresh colorful tulips as a gift! Many spring flowers are at their peak in the Spring. Your local florist can recommend the many colorful options available.

Centerpieces are a wonderful choice for Easter Brunch or Dinner. Your local florist can create a custom centerpiece in any size, color or style you prefer. They make a great gift for a host/hostess and can also be delivered to your recipient with a personalized Easter message!

Attending an Easter Gathering or Services this year? An elegant corsage or boutonnière’ will compliment your Easter attire!

The Easter Cactus, otherwise known as Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri, is a beautiful spring blooming plant similar to the Thanksgiving or Christmas Cactus. The obvious difference is that the Thanksgiving & Christmas cactus usually blooms at Thanksgiving and Christmas and the Easter cactus usually blooms at Easter. The vivid blooms arrive every Easter and put on a spectacular show! What a fantastic Easter Gift for your loved ones!

Finally, Easter Baskets aren’t just for kids! Send a delicious Gourmet Gift Basket or Fresh Fruit Basket to your loved ones for Easter. Gourmet Gift Baskets can contain many goodies; Jelly Beans, Chocolates, Cookies, Crackers, and other snack items. Beautifully designed Fresh Fruit Baskets offer a healthy option and can contain a variety of fresh citrus and other “in season” fruits. Your local florist can also create the “Ultimate” in Gift Baskets for young people! A Gift Basket full of Easter Chocolates, Jelly Beans and a Plush Easter Bunny anchoring a colorful balloon bouquet would delight any child this Easter! Ask your local florist for details.

Happy Easter from Flower Power Network!

The Language/ Meaning of Flowers

The Language of Flowers

Florists and floral experts alike will agree that flowers hold the meaning we give them and the feeling with which they are given. Your message card will express the true sentiment of your floral gift regardless of what flowers you send. That is what makes flowers special. They can say I’m Sorry, Congratulations, I Miss You or I Love You.

With this in mind, there are some common folklore associations relevant to each type of flower. Read more about the language / meaning of flowers here.

Don't Forget Bosses Day, Monday October 16th!

Bosses Day is October 16th!

When is Bosses Day? Bosses Day always falls on October 16th. This year it falls on a Monday. National Boss Day offers employees an opportunity to recognize those in supervisory positions. The official name of the holiday is “National Boss Day,” but it is commonly referred to as “Boss’s Day” or “Bosses Day”.

Here are some tips on choosing a gift for your boss.

Should I send flowers to my boss for Bosses Day? Flowers are a great choice for Bosses Day! A large vase or basket of fresh flowers can bring color and style to an otherwise dull office setting. You can send flowers on your own or as a group. Add a message to the flower arrangement saying “Happy Bosses Day!”.

What else can I send for Bosses Day? Your local florist can provide many gift options for Bosses Day! A Dish Garden or Plant for their desk would be an appreciated gift. You may also consider a Gourmet Gift Basket of goodies for your Boss. Balloons can be added for a special touch to flowers, plants and gift baskets. Your local florist can deliver your gift along with your message.

Where did Bosses Day come from? National Boss Day was started in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, then an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Ill., registered the holiday with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. She designated October 16 as the special day because it was her father’s birthday. Ms. Haroski’s purpose was to designate a day to show appreciation for her boss and other bosses. She also hoped to improve the relationship between employees and supervisors. She believed young employees often do not realize the challenges bosses face in running a business.

Remember, to get the best value, order directly from the florist that will be designing & delivering your gift. No middleman, no extra fees!

Congratulations Graduates!

Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2006! Graduation is a time for celebration! Send that special graduate a gift to celebrate this memorable occasion! Your local florist can provide the perfect gift that says "Congratulations!"

Wrapped Bouquets are a popular item for presentation. Be sure to present your wrapped flowers when they can be placed in water. Taking them to a ceremony will mean they will be out of water for a substantial time and the flowers will not last as long. Consider bringing a vase along to keep the flowers fresh while at an event. Another option is to ask your florist to place water tubes on the stems of wrapped bouquets. Of course we suggest sending the arrangement to their home in a vase for long lasting blooms.

Send a beautiful vase of flowers with some festive “Congratulations” balloons to the graduate at home! Popular color choices for a floral gift of celebration are reds, blues, yellow, oranges and purples. Ask the florist to add a colorful ribbon in school colors.

A long lasting plant, dish garden or European basket would be very appropriate to send as a “Congratulations” gift! With your special message, this gift will be enjoyed for months, even years to come and can provide a lasting memory of graduation.

A Gourmet Gift Basket filled with delicious treats is always a welcome surprise. Prom Flowers- Choosing your flowers...Corsages & Boutonnieres

It’s Prom Season! Flowers are a staple in Prom attire. Here we will discuss the different types of flowers and designs for Prom. You will also find helpful tips to assist you with selecting corsages, boutonnieres, and posies.

For the Young Lady-

You can choose Prom flowers to match or compliment her dress. If the color of her dress is difficult to match, your local florist can suggest a complimentary color. If your date has a favorite flower, let your florist know. The ribbon can also be matched to her dress or a neutral color can be used, such as sheer, gold or silver.

Pin-on Corsage- A traditional corsage that can be attached to a dress with pins. Using 2 pins will stabilize the corsage. Pin On corsages are not appropriate for lightweight material or strapless dress designs.

Wrist Corsage- A corsage attached to an elastic band to worn around the wrist. When choosing a wrist corsage, let your florist know if the young lady wearing it is petite. Too large of a corsage (ie; too many flowers) can be uncomfortable on someone with a smaller frame. In this case, your florist might suggest fewer or smaller flowers to be incorporated into the corsage.

Upper Arm Corsage- This new trend in corsages has proved popular for several reasons. It is a floral corsage attached to an elastic band, like the wrist corsage, worn on the upper arm (tricep area). Placement on the upper arm allows for less interference near the hand. It is appropriate for strapless or sleeveless dress designs. Ribbons, greenery or beads can be incorporated into the design to dangle from the corsage as an accessory.

Posies/Nosegays/Bouquets- These are small clutches of flowers to be presented and carried like a small bouquet. They can consist of one type of flower or a variety of flowers. Because they need to be carried, they are not as popular as the wearing corsages. They are lovely in presentation and for photos!

For the Young Man-

Boutonnieres- To be pinned on to the male’s jacket. Boutonnieres are usually created with 1 focal flower, green foliage, and some filler. If using smaller flowers such as sweetheart or spray roses or mini carnations, more flowers can be used. It can be made to match the corsage, but it is not necessary. To attach the Boutonniere to the jacket, use two pins and place the corsage (upright at a slight angle) centered on the left lapel of the jacket.

Some final tips...

Be sure to plan Prom accordingly. Order from your florist one week ahead if possible. Pick up the corsage/boutonniere no sooner than the day before. They must be kept in the refrigerator to stay cool until they are ready to present or wear.

In addition to photographing the couple in attire with their floral accessories, take a few close up snapshots of the floral designs, for their photo books. Years from now, they will appreciate the detailed photos.

Flowers are traditionally worn on the left side for Prom, the same side as your heart.

The most popular flowers for Corsages, Boutonnieres and Posies are Mini/Sweetheart Roses, Standard Roses, Dendrobium Orchids, Alstroemeria, Mini Carnations, Standard Carnations and Freesia.

Make Prom memorable and magical with flowers! Call your local florist for details this Prom Season!

The Chrysanthemum- also known as Mum, Florist’s Mum, Cushion Mum, Spoon mum and Football Mum

The Chrysanthemum is also known as Mum, Florist’s Mum, Cushion Mum, Spoon mum and Football Mums depending on the variety. The name Chrysanthemum is Greek for "Golden Flower". A staple in fall floral designs!

In the Far East the common Chrysanthemum has been cultivated for more than 2,000 years and is the imperial emblem of Japan.

Species variations range from Single head stems to Multi-branching, multiple head varieties. Both offered in many shapes and sizes. Most Mum varieties are available in White, yellow, pink, red, lavender, gold and bronze.

Blooms last for 7-14 days. Chrysanthemums are a popular choice for cut flower arrangements. They add harvest color to your autumn & thanksgiving floral designs! Mums are available as a potted plant as well.
